Psychological Assessment
Psychological assessments are often undertaken before beginning some therapies, to gain an understanding of how past and present factors contribute to people's problems.
It can be therapeutic in itself to have a psychological assessment. People often feel better equipped to make changes in their lives if they can understand what ‘makes them tick’.
We perform assessments as part of or before therapy:
- To help people better understand themselves
- To help others involved in a person’s care to better understand them
- For legal and medical reasons
Psychometric Assessments
Psychometric assessment is a more formal method of investigating that is used to better understand and quantify problem areas in a person’s functioning. It can describe and measure certain abilities, deficits, traits, personality features, behaviours, thoughts or emotions.
Cognitive assessment is another type of psychological assessment. It is helpful for people who may have neuropsychological (brain) differences. A cognition is a thought or mental process. Cognitive problems can appear as attention/concentration problems, memory problems, learning problems, anger control problems, impulse control problems, etc. Cognitive testing can help identify problems and guide treatment.
We undertake psychometric and cognitive assessments to understand and measure symptoms and personality characteristics to better measure areas of cognitive functioning, such as:
- Intellectual functioning
- Memory
- Attention
- Concentration
Clinical Supervision
Clinical supervision is offered to psychologists, cognitive-behavioural therapists, counsellors and psychotherapists by a variety of practitioners working from Albion Place.
Where trainees require access to clients for therapeutic work this can be provided on a specific basis, depending upon the nature of clinical experience required and current availability of appropriate clients.
Group supervision is available upon request at a reduced rate negotiated with the relevant practitioner.
Work-related Stress
Individual assessment and treatment are provided to employees or organisations regarding work-related stress. The level of intervention can vary from assessment and intervention recommendations only (2 - 3 appointments), to on-going therapeutic work if required.
Where on-going therapeutic work is requested and indicated, clear treatment goals are established with the individual employee or organisation. These usually revolve around regaining optimal work performance and would typically involve 8 - 10 appointment sessions using cognitive-behavioural approaches.
Where organisations request the assessment or therapeutic work, psychological reports are produced according to agreed time-scales. Confidentiality boundaries are set out at the start of the involvement and employees and employers are required to sign a formal confidentiality agreement.
